People for Envirnomental Action and Community Health

P.e.a.c.h. is dedicated to creating a sustainable, local economy and increasing food security with the production of fresh, local, safe food, and making this food accessible for all residents, regardless of income.

As the growing season rolls around, please consider giving p.e.a.c.h a donation of seeds for the 2010 growing year. People for Environmental Action and Community Health (p.e.a.c.h.) is a decade-old 501c3 non-profit founded in Spokane, WA. We are currently expanding our program to include a 10-acre organic, permaculture-based farm. This farm will serve as a grounds to train new farmers, engage youth in agriculture, and improve access to local, organic food for low-income community members of Spokane.

Some elements of our non-profit farming program include:

We take at-risk youth off the streets and employ them on our p.e.a.c.h. Community Farm located just 16 miles from downtown Spokane

The food that is grown on the p.e.a.c.h. farm is sold to low-income residents at half-price making this high quality, local fresh food affordable for local people who live near the poverty line.

We give away 5000 bedding plants each spring to low-income residents so they can experiment with growing some of their own food.

Each season we host field trips to the farm for hundreds of school children so they can get their hands in the soil and make connections about where food in a local food system comes from.

We have a program that brings institutional labor to the farm. Department of corrections inmates on work-release, yough from Juvenile justice required to do community service and participants in the Welfare-to-Work program do required hours on the farm helping grow food that will make its way to poor Spokane neighborhoods.

We have a farmer education program to produce skilled farmers who are trained to grow food that will be consumed by area residents and we are growing a database of available farmland on which to place these new farmers.

With your help we can continue to provide vital, nourishing food to the under-served population of Spokane, while growing a healthy, thriving community. Thank you for your support and "seed" grant to help. p.e.a.c.h. continue to grow. If you have any questions feel free to contact us at any time.

P.S. Because of our commitment to organic produce we would prefer organic, non-GMO, or heirloom seeds
